G W Viant - Master Thatchers are Cornish Thatchers who have been thatching in Cornwall for over 40 years.

We undertake any thatch roofing work, from thatch repairs; repairing a leaking roof to ridging and complete re-thatch.  Combed wheat reed is the traditional material used when thatching in Cornwall, and there are many examples of these thatched cottages in the area.

The business was started in 1980 by Graham Viant.  Graham had begun thatching with Sidney Williams of Blackwater.  At that time the Williams family were the only Thatchers in Cornwall, with the trade passing down through the generations, and of course a true Cornish family only knowing the Cornish style of thatching.

More recently Stephen Tregoning who joined Graham in 1997 has taken over the business after completing his Master Thatching qualification.

We pride ourselves on being traditionalists, with all of us being true Cornishmen, we believe that the Cornish styles must not be lost, after all, the thatching methods we practice today were handed down over many generations.
